It appears that I might have to sell the MR2 sometime in the near-ish future for a car more capable of enduring city roads and driving and the Celica GTS has become a surprise contender as something durable and fun.

Dat lift.

And this is why only the GTS is a possible choice

Just out of curiosity, which generation of MR2?

The Matrix XRS and Pontiac Vibe GT had this with a 6 speed in 03-04 as well.

What a pity that such undeserving cars have that engine

They're not that bad, they could have shoved it in the Highlander or Rav4.

But they're not exactly good either

These cars are remarkably durable. A friend of mine owns one and has had it for years. This is impressive because he sucks at vehicle maintenance.

Could you have this? If you, have this.
The 3dr TTE Compressor gives you the engine from an Exige in a somewhat compact body.

What is it? I can't say I've ever seen or heard of it.

Toyota Corolla E12 3dr hatchback, presumably EU/UK-spec.
1.8 VVT-i 4-cyl., S/C, 224 PS. If you think that's nothing, consider that this was available next to the Golf V GTI (200 PS).
There's a "warm hatch" version, too, which should be the Corolla TSport or something; same engine as the Celica in that one.

Damn, I wish I could get that, I'm stuck in the US where hot hatches are just staring to come around to us

Well, the Corolla shouldn't be that bad in terms of practicality ... it even has something like rear seats. ;)
